Q4 Charity Vote Nominee – Colorado Coalition for the Homeless Works to Create Lasting Solutions

Citywide Connect Community Outreach ProgramCitywide Banks’ next Charity Fan Vote for its $1,000 Quarterly Hand-Up Charity Donation will take place  on Facebook from December 1-14, 2011.  The following is one of five nominated charities that will be spotlighted leading up to this quarter’s Fan Vote.

On any snowy Colorado night, some 16,000 adults and children wonder where to sleep. Perhaps in cars, or motels, with friends or at a restaurant; they’ll find a place, but they live without the comfort and security of ongoing shelter.

Colorado Coalition for the HomelessThe causes of homelessness are both complex and simple – wage stagnation and rising housing costs put some of our community members on a razor’s edge of economic vulnerability.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless works to prevent and solve homelessness through an array of direct aid and long-term policy solutions.  Recognizing that homelessness is complex, the Coalition provides more than 40 homelessness-related programs, such as job counseling, medical care, child care and, of course, housing. In 2010, the Coalition responded to 16,000 children and adults. On any given night, the Coalition houses 2,200 families and individuals.

“Our bottom line is driven by compassion,” wrote John Parvensky, the Coalition’s CEO. “When we work together, someone moves from the streets to a safe home. There is no better reward.”

A donation of $1,000 would support the Coalition’s services wherever need is the greatest: housing, counseling, medical care or other services designed to help homeless individuals and families.

The Coalition, established in 1984, dedicates 92 percent of every dollar raised to client programs and services.   Learn more about how to make your own cash donation or volunteer your time at  www.coloradocoalition.org.

Why Citywide Is Promoting Front Range Charities
As part of its larger Citywide Connect community outreach program, Citywide Banks is aiming to raise awareness about the great work and ongoing needs of Denver & Boulder charities. Due to our economic times, it’s increasingly important for businesses to step up and help those in need around the Front Range. Our local charities cannot depend on government resources alone. As a locally-owned business bank, Citywide Banks wants to encourage more businesses to look at local charities for their corporate giving campaigns. We also want to encourage more business professionals to volunteer in our local community. Our quarterly Fan Vote on Facebook is a fun way to get the community engaged in our campaign. Regardless of who wins the vote, all the nominated charities will get some valuable exposure for their work and ongoing needs.
